What is Tajweed and why does it matter?
Tajweed means "to do well" or "to make better." In the context of the Holy Quran, Tajweed refers to the set of rules that govern the correct pronunciation of Arabic letters and the proper recitation of Allah's words.
When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ received the Quran, it was revealed with Tajweed — with specific rules for how each Arabic letter should be pronounced, how long vowels are held, and how letters interact. Learning Tajweed means reciting the Quran correctly, as it was revealed, honouring every word of Allah Almighty.

Why Tajweed cannot be learned from an app
Most people who have been reciting the Quran for years are making mistakes they have never noticed — and some of those mistakes change the meaning of the word. That is not a criticism. It is what happens when Tajweed is learned quickly in childhood, in a group, from someone who could not hear every individual voice. It is also entirely fixable.
No app, no video course and no recording can hear your recitation and tell you what you are doing wrong. They can demonstrate the correct sound; they cannot tell you that your tongue is a centimetre too far forward. It depends on your starting level and how much you recite between lessons — anyone quoting a fixed timeline without knowing those things is guessing. An adult who already reads fluently and practises daily will usually notice a difference within weeks and work through the rules over months. No — you do not need prior knowledge of the Arabic language to begin learning Tajweed. We start from the very beginning: Arabic letters, their articulation points, and basic Arabic word sounds. All our Tajweed classes are live — one-to-one with your assigned tutor. We do not use pre-recorded lessons. Live classes are essential for learning Tajweed correctly because your tutor needs to hear your recitation, identify your mistakes in real time, and correct your pronunciation immediately.
